Hartford Correctional Center Overview

Hartford Correctional Center is a Level 4 high-security jail. Level 4 means high security, just below the maximum tier the state uses. The Connecticut Department of Correction runs it. From I-91, take exit 33 to Jennings Road. From the south you turn right onto Jennings Road; from the north you turn left. Follow it to Weston Street and turn right. You pass the Post Office, and the jail is on the left. From I-84, connect to I-91 North first, then use exit 33 and follow the same path. The Post Office is a handy landmark on Weston Street.

Visiting Someone at Hartford Correctional Center

Visits at Hartford CC follow the visit type, not a fixed weekly day schedule. The Department of Correction does not post set day-of-week hours for this jail, so plan around the rules below instead. General-population in-person visits became first come, first served on March 18, 2024. Inmates in special groups are scheduled instead. SRG means Security Risk Group, a DOC security classification. Protective custody is a housing status used to keep certain people separate for safety. Video visits are scheduled for every inmate and run free on Microsoft Teams. Two in-person visits per week are allowed.

You must be on the inmate's approved visitor list before any visit. People not yet on the list complete the DOC visiting application form. Bring a valid photo ID. Arrive at least 15 minutes early for any scheduled visit. Cell phones and other devices are not allowed inside. No visits happen on state-observed holidays. Dress modestly, since attire follows Administrative Directive 10.6 and revealing clothing can be turned away.

Up to three approved adults can join a video visit, and minors need adult supervision. A visit is not set until the facility confirms it, so check your email, including junk mail. All video visits are recorded by staff, and visitors may not record on their own end.

The jail also oversees a 12-bed Medical-Surgical Ward at the UConn Health Center in Farmington. That ward is Level 5, co-ed, and the facility page says it handles nearly 350 inpatients and more than 2,200 outpatients each year. A Manchester inmate may be in DOC custody but treated at that ward rather than housed in a standard Hartford CC unit.
